The Day of the Dead is coming with: Corrido Calavera and Viva Milagro

The
Day of the Dead is full of heartfelt traditions, and here at Milagro, we
celebrate with the best of them!  As we prepare for our 30th
anniversary season in a dance between tradition and revelation, if you attend a
performance of the new Día de los Muertos
show Corrido Calavera or our ¡Viva Milagro! dinner, you are sure to
have a unique experience of this special Mexican holiday!

Creating altars to honor the spirits of their deceased loved ones is
one of the most sacred traditions surrounding the Day of the Dead.  Day of
the Dead altars are set up before Día de los Muertos, and are decorated
with ofrenda, offerings for the dead, such as:

  • candles
  • fresh
flowers or flowers petals (usually marigolds)
  • photographs
of the deceased, along with other memorabilia
  • the
favorite foods and drinks of the deceased (lovingly-prepared)
  • incense
  • water
  • sugar
    skulls
  • pan de muerto (bread of the dead)
  • statues
    of saints
Day of
the Dead altars are typically created inside people’s homes, but here at
Milagro, we also build altars in our community space, El Zócalo, for our guests
to experience and enjoy.  This year, local artist Pepe Moscoso of
FusionArte will be curating altars throughout October, for viewing during ¡Viva Milagro! — a
time to gather with companions new and old, to celebrate the holidays and the
start of a wonderful season at Milagro, to honor our beloved dead (and living)
with beautiful candlelit altars and stirring calaveras.
