Season41: Celebrate the ChangeMakers!

2024 - 2025

Join Milagro for Season41: Celebrate the ChangeMakers, through which we will explore the body politic during an election year and share how ChangeMakers can uplift the discourse around social injustice, changing gender norms, and more. Our Season41 opener in September will encourage citizens to register and vote! The 29th annual Dia de los Muertos Festival will explore gender identity through our “chosen family” and in the winter, three Fridas will explore their identity through art.  The season wraps up with a powerful tale of families displaced through gentrification.

In addition to the performances in the Milagro Theatre, educational workshops and Community Artes events will pop-up in El Zocálo throughout the season.  Special events will include ongoing Tertulia: Art + Conversation events celebrating our Latino Arts Fund recipients, community conversations about topics touched upon in our Milagro Theatre productions, workshops and community altars during the fourth annual Central Eastside Muertos Celebration, our family fun favorite, Posada Milagro and El Mundo de las Mujeres, our new women’s showcase series in March.

This season there is something for everyone at El Centro Milagro!

University Professor Paola Aguilar is drowning in debt from years of fertility treatments. So when THE Political Party offers her a substantial paycheck to help them understand the Hispanic/Latino/Latina/Latinx/Latine Vote, she reluctantly takes the job. Can she help these political strategists understand all of the nuances of her community to save the election? Or will her own journey ultimately be more important than who controls the White House?

FRIDA, un retablo

February 6 – 23, 2025

Written by Dañel Malan-Gonzalez

This bilingual play paints a portrait of the rich and turbulent life of Frida Kahlo through three versions of Frida. The Frida’s will try to separate themselves from the gift shop imagery and show their true selves.  From the streetcar accident that crippled their body to their torrid relationship with Diego Rivera, life and art intertwine in this story of one of Mexico’s most acclaimed artists.

a home what howls (or the house what was ravine)

May 1 – 17 2025

Written by Matthew Paul Olmos

Directed by Patrice Amon

A coyote howling. A home in disarray. A young woman alone. Soledad Vargas is in the city, fighting for her family’s right to live on their land. When hope starts to dwindle, how far will she go, and what will she be forced to leave behind? A modern myth drawn from the real-life struggles of displaced communities around the globe, a home what howls… is a lyrically-rendered quest of youth activism standing against forces of injustice.
