I hope this finds you well! I write this note, just days before Thanksgiving, feeling truly grateful for the wonderful people and opportunities in my life, including working at Miracle Theatre as an Artistic Director. Not only does Miracle give me the opportunity to grow as a theatre artist year-round, its focus on Latino art and culture has provided me a path of discovery that resonates profoundly in my soul. Through my work here I have delved into the beauty and complexity of the human experience through the lens of Latinidad, and discovered the power of art to transform our world for the better. As you well know, the stories we share at Miracle may be Latino in nature but they are universal at heart.
I can’t tell you how much it means to hear from you about our work. Many of you already know that your comments do not go unheeded. Have you checked out our new seats in the theatre? That’s a direct response to audience surveys. Recently we heard that you’d like to see more works about indigenous cultures, so we’ll be premiering two new works that speak directly to Mayan and Aztec heritage: Dañel Malan’s B’aktun 13 this January and next year’s Día de los muertos show (still untitled!) We hear that you appreciate our commitment to youth and families, and so we’re expanding our educational offerings with arts workshops at community centers around the Portland area and a summer filled with classes for students of all ages at El Centro Milagro.
These efforts are only a part of the work we do at Miracle. As the Northwest’s premier Latino arts and culture organization now in its 28th season, Miracle receives requests from individuals and organizations around the state seeking support and collaborations that strengthen our communities. For example, did you know that Teatro Milagro recently created OYE—Opciones y Educación, in partnership with various local agencies to provide workshops using theatre that shed light on health disparities in our communities?
We recognize that theatre is a collaborative art form and that its ultimate point of engagement is with you, our audience. This principle extends to all our work. We hear that you want theatre that delights and enlightens, programs that educate and inspire, and events that bring us closer together in spirit of community.
This is work we love. This is why we are here.
I humbly ask for your support to continue our work. Please make your tax-deductible contribution to Miracle Theatre Group today.
Thank you,
Olga Sanchez
