A flamenco tale of love, loss and life -one night only!

A flamenco tale of love, loss and life -one night only!

Adriana Maresma-Fois first heard flamenco’s siren call twenty years ago while studying in southern Spain, and her life was never the same. After years of study and practice (including a BA in Dance and Photography from the University of New Mexico), she has accumulated 14 years of teaching and performance alongside her husband, guitarist and composer Juan Gómez, based from her adopted home of Jeréz. Now she is bringing her passion and talent to the States on tour with her international troupe, AMFlamenco Dance Company for a very limited engagement.

«Flamenco is a beautiful and powerful type of poetry, combining music, song, and movement. Each component is a language in itself, and the combination is one of the most powerful expressions of heart and soul,» says Maresma-Fois. Wanting to share her love and insights with her native country, Maresma-Fois has developed a performance piece strongly rooted in the traditions of flamenco cante, and threaded through with her personal narratives of love, loss, and the unexpected twists and turns of fate. Poesía Flamenca (“Flamenco Poetry”), with the collaboration of dancer Jose Moro, guitarist Juan Gomez and singer Rocio Soto, is now on a six-city tour that will culminate in a one-night-only intimate performance at Milagro Theatre on Nov. 24.

Adriana continues: «I am very excited to bring this original work back to my homeland, to share this art that means so much to me with family, friends, and flamenco lovers. I feel this art is one of the most direct ways to communicate, and when performed with respect to the tradition, it can reach and touch one’s soul, leaving everlasting memories.»
