It’s here! The much awaited return of Milagro’s festival of art and culture celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month launches tonight!
The many artistic expressions presented during La Luna Nueva are a mosaic of the vibrancy of Latinos around the world, but we’re being a little more literal as we begin this amazing 3 week adventure in sights and sounds. Local artist and instructor (and frequent Milagro collaborator) Hector Hernandez kicks off the festival with a special exhibit, the result of his Innovative and Traditional Mosaic Portrait workshop, at a special pre-show reception in the Milagro lobby tonight at 5pm.
Come for the art, stay for the show: tonight is also the first performance in this premiere weekend of Andean Dreams, an original and wide-ranging exploration in dance, music and story-telling of the legendary Incan Empire and its history before and after the arrival of the Spanish. Songs and legends in English, Spanish and Quechua make this unique performance one not to miss. It features the choreography and music of some of the best-regarded Andean artists in the area: Luciana Proaño, Alex Llumiquinga and the musical group Chayag.
The exhibit and performance are only the beginning of the festival, continuing this weekend with the bilingual shows Sueños de Fútbol and El Niño Diego on Sunday Sep. 14, and next week with a series of staged readings, a movie night, the premieres of Dreamscape and Words That Burn, and much more art. Check out our website for a full listing of events and times, and get your tickets for these weekend’s shows!
See you at Milagro, shining under La Luna Nueva!
