Vitalidad Co-founders, Carolina and Jamal, will be teaching the 90 minute course on Merengue and Bachata. These two dances are partner dances from the Dominican Republic and are great examples of Dominican culture that are fun and family oriented.
ABOUT VITALIDAD MOVEMENT ARTS CENTER
Vitalidad Movement Arts Center (VMAC) was founded by Carolina and Jamal Rahima over 5 years ago. Carolina grew up in Venezuela with Salsa music, but did not become an avid practitioner until 2003 when she relocated to Portland. Carolina trained with the Caribbean Soul Dance Team in New Jersey, and has performed at the LA and NY Salsa Congresses respectively. Jamal, coming from an athletic and martial arts background started dancing Salsa in 2003 in Portland and soon joined the Salsa con Sabor performance team. For his efforts Jamal has won several local Jack and Jill Bachata and Salsa competitions in Portland, and has performed in the Seattle Salsa Congress and the Rose City Salsa Festival to name few. Together Carolina and Jamal performed as dance partners and founded a dance company Ritmo Del Alma in Vancouver, WA; and upon returning to Portland area founded VMAC. VMAC is an inclusive dance community specializing in dance courses and workshops ranging from Bachata and Salsa, to Afro Latino Funk and House.
