During July, Milagro is opening its doors for three warm and wonderful weeks of FREE creative classes for adults led by Miracle artisans, followed by a Sunday street fair for the whole family. These hands-on classes and weekend workshops will help you to explore a new interest in a fun and informal setting.
Classes and workshops are free, but pre-registration is required. Registration closes one week before class starts. Classes will be primarily in English, though most instructors are bilingual. July 10 • Salsas: Develop your own signature salsa when you combine juicy tomatoes, garden-fresh onions and a variety of other secret ingredients. Led by Dañel Malán
July 17 • Ensaladas: Put away the iceberg lettuce and learn to create fresh salads with a Latin American twist — a light and healthy choice for hot summer nights. Led by Dañel Malán
July 24 • Tortillas: Learn the tricks of the trade to making corn tortillas and then pair them with salsas and ensaladas from the first two classes. Led by Dañel Malán

July 11 • Calaveras (sugar skulls): Try your hand at making traditional sugar skulls and you’ll be ready to honor your loved ones on Día de los muertos. Led by Estela Robinson
July 18• Codices (Aztec bookbinding): Create an Aztec-inspired codex, or accordion book, ready to fill with images and glyphs that share your story. Led by Tim Krause
July 25 • Papel Picado (Cut Paper): Explore Mexican folk art when you create holiday banners in the style of papel picado, or designs of cut paper. Led by Susy Chávez

July 12, 19, 26 • Raíces Unidas por Yucatán fills Milagro’s Zócalo with folkloric music and dance of Mexico. Watch demonstrations and practice steps before sharing what you’ve learned in a short presentation for friends and family. Each week builds on the previous class, so plan to attend all three sessions.

On Friday night, enjoy a demonstration of the zampoña, one of the oldest wind instruments of South America, performed by one of Miracle’s favorite musicians, Gerardo Calderón of Grupo Condor. Then on Saturday, craft your own zampoña to play at an informal student recital.
July 20 & 21 • El teatro invisible de Boal
Join Teatro Milagro actor Ajai Terrazas-Tripathi for an interactive workshop based on the work of Augusto Boal, founder of Theatre of the Oppressed. Learn how Image Theatre and Invisible Theatre can be taken to the streets to tell stories, culminating with a performance in public.
July 27 & 28 • El circo y la comedia
Enjoy a dazzling showcase of circus and commedia dell’arte performance styles by Danny Moreno of Teatro Milagro and CarlosAlexis Cruz of Pelú Theatre Friday night. Then on Saturday, try your own hand at juggling, flagging, tumbling and acrobatics to create a unique student showcase.
